Welcome to the 2007 New South Wales Local Government Cultural Awards website. Here are all the nominations for an award in 2007. Held annually to recognise exemplary cultural development, all NSW councils or groups of councils are encouraged to apply.
The Judging of the 2007 Cultural Awards took place at the Local Government and Shires Associations on Tuesday 3rd April. The Judges were:
Cr Bruce Miller, Mayor, Cowra
Cr Beverley Geigerl, Councillor, Hurstville City Council
Mr Mathew Poll, Artistic Director, Boomalli Gallery
Ms Maisy Stapleton, CEO, Museums and Galleries NSW
Ms Victoria Keighery, CEO, Community Cultural Development NSW
Welcome to our showcase of NSW Local Government cultural activities. The Local Government and Shires Associations run the Awards recognising quality cultural development. You will find all sixty four of the 2007 nominations for a cultural award in these pages.
Here you can explore a wide range of cultural projects, including buildings, planning, programs and community cultural development activity. The depth and range is astonishing – and we know there are further excellent NSW council cultural projects each year, not nominated for an award.
All of these projects help to 'tell our story' - an essential and defining human characteristic. In a climate of expanding global homogeneity, the power of local representation is becoming increasingly recognised and important.
Congratulations to all of the forty five councils who submitted a nomination in 2007.
Enjoy browsing these pages, and be inspired to create new arts and cultural projects in collaboration with your local council.

Congratulations from Country Energy
As a long-time supporter of local councils, Country Energy is honoured to again support this awards initiative and congratulate councils on the role they play in fostering cultural life across the state.
Country Energy’s electricity network spans 95 per cent of NSW and as such we take our responsibility to provide opportunities for local communities, including promoting cultural life in the 1,500-plus communities we serve, very seriously.
We have strong synergies with councils and shires – we are all committed to supporting and accommodating the growing needs of our customers and stakeholders.
Examples of Country Energy’s support range from the popular $35,000 Country Energy Art Prize - to taking the renowned Sydney Opera House Proms on Tour to more than 17,000 kids in 58 towns across regional NSW – an initiative that will take place again this year.
Such events and opportunities go hand-in-hand with our commitment to providing value for money services and a safe and reliable energy network.
Country Energy congratulates the LGSA and its members on their unwavering dedication to the ongoing development and sustainability of their local communities and looks forward to further developing our relationship with the LGSA.
